Bumpin Uglies' new album, Lyrics Over Everything, hits all the right notes and then some. With 14 tracks of reggae-punk-ska brilliance coupled with a hint of folksy bluegrass, this Annapolis-based band showcases their unique sound, drawing on influences from every corner of the musical universe. Whether it’s the introspective musings of “Underdog” or the infectious energy of “Passion Is Contagious,” the album is a testament to their DIY ethos and relentless dedication.  Lyrics Over Everything includes a track of the same name. Released earlier this year, this single is a heady mix of heartfelt lyricism and driving beats, featuring another Maryland native, Joey Harkum. Hardesty's vocal delivery is raw and unapologetic, a perfect fit for the song’s theme of prioritizing  authenticity over superficiality. This track supports the tone for an album that is both introspective and outwardly rebellious.  The standout track “High Hopes” blends upbeat tempos with a catchy chorus, making it impossible not to tap your feet. “Stanley,” with its folksy charm and heavy sax interludes, gives a nod to the band's ability to blend genres seamlessly. Meanwhile, “Cheat Codes” channels pure punk energy with Hardesty’s biting lyrics and rapid-fire delivery, leaving no room for pretense.  Each song tells a story, with lyrics that are as poignant as they are punchy. “Maryland Boys” is a love letter to the band’s home state, featuring a surprise hip-hop verse that adds a fresh twist to their sound. On the other hand, “Spinning Plates” captures the anxiety and hustle of modern life, wrapped in a bouncy, upbeat melody that belies its deeper themes.  Drummer T.J. Haslett’s mastery is on full display in tracks like “Forever to Go,” where his drumming propels the song forward with an anthemic drive. The band’s ability to shift gears effortlessly is evident in “Yin and the Yang,” a beautiful ode to Hardesty’s wife, Sophia, that showcases his distinctive vibrato.  As they gear up for their biggest tour yet, also titled Lyrics Over Everything, Bumpin Uglies prove that they’re not just playing music—they’re living it. From Cali Vibes to Everwild, their festival appearances have cemented their place in the scene. Not to mention the annual festival put on by Bumpin Uglies, Weekend at Wolfies. This new album is sure to keep them on the radar of both longtime fans and new listeners alike.  Bumpin Uglies are: Brandon Hardesty (vocals, lead guitar), Dave Wolf (bass, backing vocals), T.J. Haslett (drums), Ethan Lichtenberger (keys, trombone, trumpet, backing vocals), and Will Lopez (saxophone). With a discography that spans over a decade, including notable albums like Go Folk Yourself (2012) and Mid-Atlantic Dub (2022), this band continues to evolve while staying true to their roots.  Join them as they redefine the boundaries of music genres and deliver an experience that is as genuine as it is electrifying.

With 20 No. 1 hits stretching back to 1991, two GRAMMY awards, dozens of ACM and CMA honors and a discography counting more album sales than any duo in history – regardless of genre – Brooks & Dunn’s influence on today’s country has never been in question. Hits like “Boot Scootin’ Boogie,” “My Maria” and “Believe” have propelled the duo to more than 30 million albums sold, with the New York Times heralding “together they helped drive the power-country era of the early-to-mid 1990s and continued to benefit from the sea change in the genre they helped initiate right through their most recent albums.” Their original “Merle Haggard meets The Rolling Stones” vibe made them progressive stars in their own right. The duo’s recently released collaboration project REBOOT debuted at No. One on Billboard’s Top Country Albums. The impressive feat marks the first time the duo has topped the album charts since 2009 while simultaneously earning the duo their 10th Billboard 200 Top 10 album, the most of any country duo or group in the chart’s history.  In 2019 the duo was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in the “Modern Era Artist” category.

Tropidelic x Ballyhoo! event photo

Tropidelic x Ballyhoo!

Thursday June 5th

Ticket link:

https://aftontickets.com/event/buyticket/zp9kd282x5/tropidelic-x-ballyhoo

A musical lighthouse, shining a resilient light for everyone that has had to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, Tropidelic has arrived on the national stage. Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, a city rich in character and music history, this six-piece performance powerhouse carves their own path with an independent mentality. Front man Roads, explores feelings more than sounds, seeing where the emotional travel can take him, while valuing being comfortable and honest. There is a sense of seeing where the music can go on their 2024 new album. As an everyman-band making music to overcome life’s obstacles, the “goals” that Tropidelic made when starting the band have all been surpassed. Roads says of the band’s future, “I’m nose to the grindstone. It’s going great and I am going to keep going.” The past year has included a first pitch at a Cleveland Guardians game followed by a live performance for the entire stadium; an adopted highway in their hometown; producing two of their own festivals (Sunny Days and Everwild Music Festival); tens of millions of streams of Tropidelic’s music; appearances at major US festivals such as Beach Life and Tortuga; tours with The Dirty Heads, Lupe Fiasco, 311, and Michael Franti; and their first performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Through 25 years and eight independent albums, the last four on their own Right Coast Records, Ballyhoo! have earned the exclamation point which marks their name. Starting in the basement of their mom’s Aberdeen, MD, home, rocking out on guitar and drums respectively, practicing every day, brothers Howi and Donald Spangler formed the proto-punk band in the mold of Green Day and Nirvana, with an eye towards the emerging ska genre led by Goldfinger, Sublime, 311 and No Doubt. The group’s eighth and most recent studio album, the breezy, ska-fueled, hook-filled Message to the World, on their own Right Coast Records, finds the self-declared “beach-rockers,” having grown up in public, accepting the responsibilities of adulthood while still hanging on to their dreams of world domination. Stylistically, their music ranges from the hard-edged punk of 2018’s Detonate, which captured the feelings of anger and depression from dealing with personal loss and the exhaustion generated by over a decade on the road to the island reggae beats of the follow-up, Message to the World. “Whatever you want to achieve, just focus on that and work towards it,” explains Howi about the Ballyhoo! ethos. “Don’t worry about followers, views, or even money. Just keep making good stuff. One day it may be possible to finally quit that day job and live your dream full time.”Ballyhoo! is still doing just that, purveying good vibes, positivity and fun live shows meant to take you away from real life...  See less

Badfish is a vibe. Badfish is a sonic house party complete with plenty of gyrating fans sipping libations and enjoying various extracurricular activities. Badfish is feel-good music. For almost 25 years, the Rhode Island-based band – Joel Hanks on bass, Scott Begin on drums, Pat Downes on vocals and guitar, Danny Torgersen on horns, keyboards, and guitars – have successfully paid tribute to Sublime, the influential California group that brought ska-punk and reggae-rock to the mainstream. Badfish’s heartfelt celebration of Sublime’s musical spirit and legacy is so sought-after that they’ve headlined theaters, sold out shows, and played 15-20 gigs a month. But now, Badfish is more. After two decades of Sublime reverence, Badfish originality is stomping into high gear. Badfish recently released its second new song, the anthemic, groove-fortified “F You Pay Me,” with special guest Grieves, as the follow-up to the band’s first single, “High With You.” Now the Sublime repertoire is nicely augmented by fresh original tracks that blend seamlessly together.

Now 30+ years later, founding members Kevn Kinney and Tim Nielsen find themselves enjoying longevity, having survived the pressures of fame, a shifting musical landscape, multiple lineup changes, traveling miles of back roads and highways to arrive here. DNC has had an amazing rotation of lead guitarists joining them such as Warner E. Hodges (Jason & The Scorchers), Aaron Lee Tasjan, Sadler Vaden (Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit), Mark Bryan (Hootie & The Blowfish) and Peter Stroud (Sheryl Crow) while continuing to tour the World. The current lineup includes guitarist Laur Joamets (Sturgill Simpson) and longtime drummer Dave V Johnson. The recent re-release of Mystery Road on Island Records, Darius Rucker’s cover of their beloved anthem “Straight To Hell” feat. Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Charles Kelley (Lady Antebellum), a Summer 2018 re-release of remastered 1997 eponymous album as Too Late To Turn Back Now and the most recent 2019 full-length Aaron Lee Tasjan produced album Live The Love Beautiful has kept the band in constant motion. Sunday June 22nd

Ticket Link: https://aftontickets.com/event/buyticket/gl9en1nq95

Revolutionary music may seem hard to come by in these times, but that doesn’t mean the revolution isn’t still brewing. Meet Hawaii’s Mike Love – who spreads his positive and powerful message across the globe.  Love developed a unique style and sound rooted in the spirituality and message-based music of reggae and Rastafari, while also fusing progressive and classic rock, soul, blues, flamenco, jazz, classical, and more. At the core of Mike’s music, is healing – he is an active social, animal and environmental rights advocate, using his music as a tool to educate and unite.  Love started playing guitar at the age of 15, and soon after began performing live as front man for 10-piece band Dubkonscious. He then furthered his talents as a composer/lyricist, arranger and also producer on the band’s album At the Foot of the Mountain. He then began to hone what has now become an internationally recognized, power-packed, one-man-band style show, using looping, multiple instruments and an array of different vocal techniques and musical styles to create a full and powerful sound that belies the fact that he is on stage alone. Love's solo performances have since taken him to some of the largest stages in the world. December 2012 saw the release of Love’s first solo album, critically acclaimed The Change I'm Seeking. The album features his hit track Permanent Holiday, which went viral on YouTube and currently has more than 32 million views [2022], expanding his fan base to the furthest corners of the globe. With the release of his second album Love Will Find a Way and follow-up companion album Love Overflowing, Love solidified the bond with his fans, exhibiting the evolution they have come to expect from his music.  Love has performed at festivals and on stages in the US, South and Central America, Canada, Europe, Guam, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines, both solo and with his band The Full Circle. He has shared the stage with the likes of Michael Franti, Rebelution, Steel Pulse, Groundation, Xavier Rudd, John Butler, Dave Matthews, Dub Inc., Trevor Hall, Nahko and Medicine for the People and Jack Johnson.  Notable festival plays include the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival (Byron Bay AUS), Reggae Sunska (Bordeaux FR), One Love Festival (Auckland NZ and California USA), California Roots Festival (Monterey USA), Boomtown Fair (UK), Sziget Festival (Budapest EU), Woodstock Festival (Poland EU), Electric Forest (Michigan USA), Wanderlust Festival (Hawaii, USA) and many more.  Love releases his music independently on his own Love Not War Records label and is currently working on his highly anticipated fourth album, with singles set to release some time in 2022.
