Beer & Banjos

Tuesday January 21st

Every Tuesday

"The Beer & Banjos music series, now in its tenth year with chapters in Raleigh, Carrboro & Boone, is a popular weekly event that combines live music with a friendly atmosphere. Hosted by the house band, The Beer & Banjos Allstars, it typically features a mix of local, regional and national musicians, showcasing genres such as Americana, bluegrass, folk, and roots music. It also serves as an incubator for these acts to hone their chops as they grow, develop, and strike out on the road. Now presented by Pinecone: The Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, the series brings together the community through music creating a welcoming and casual environment for attendees.  Beer & Banjos has become a staple of the Raleigh music scene, celebrating both musical talent and the area’s craft beer culture."

Papadosio with Dizgo

Friday April 25th

Ticket Link:https://aftontickets.com/event/buyticket/zp9kdln2x5

Deftly navigating the confluence of prog rock, livetronica, jazz, & jam, Papadosio’s appeal as a crossover act has amassed a rabid fan base across North America. Thanks to a steady stream of innovative albums, they’ve seen a decade and a half of consistent touring with hundreds of live recordings at the fingertips of every follower. Their allure’s led to co-presenting massive events such as Resonance, Secret Dreams, Summer SEEquence, and Subterranea Festival, plus headline plays at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre. From their humble Midwest origins, Papadosio's grassroots operation has grown to overflowing clubs and theaters nationwide, cementing their reputation as a must-see act. Now based in Asheville, NC, the dynamic five-piece features rhythm expert Mike Healy on drums, low end luminary Rob McConnell on bass, multi-instrumentalist brothers Sam & Billy Brouse on keyboard/vocals, and sage producer Anthony Thogmartin on guitar/vocals. The band remains doggedly devoted to writing new music and pushing technological boundaries in their downtime, expanding the size and scope of their existing catalog live on stage and in the moment. Complex harmonies and challenging rhythms are the lifeblood of each composition, while a stunning visual show synchronized with the music enhances the immersive live experience. Papadosio offers one-of-a-kind experiences to each attendee, with more than 150 shows per year over the past decade. In the band’s 16-year history, no one has heard a song—let alone a set—played the same way twice. Dizgo redefines the live experience by blending jamtronica with funk, deep-groove soul, and psychedelic rock, taking the audience on a musical journey that includes intricate compositions and extended improvisation. The result is something both danceable and introspective: soulful vocals, interweaving analog synths and shredding guitar all of which join forces under the banner of Dizgo.

Bumpin Uglies' new album, Lyrics Over Everything, hits all the right notes and then some. With 14 tracks of reggae-punk-ska brilliance coupled with a hint of folksy bluegrass, this Annapolis-based band showcases their unique sound, drawing on influences from every corner of the musical universe. Whether it’s the introspective musings of “Underdog” or the infectious energy of “Passion Is Contagious,” the album is a testament to their DIY ethos and relentless dedication.  Lyrics Over Everything includes a track of the same name. Released earlier this year, this single is a heady mix of heartfelt lyricism and driving beats, featuring another Maryland native, Joey Harkum. Hardesty's vocal delivery is raw and unapologetic, a perfect fit for the song’s theme of prioritizing  authenticity over superficiality. This track supports the tone for an album that is both introspective and outwardly rebellious.  The standout track “High Hopes” blends upbeat tempos with a catchy chorus, making it impossible not to tap your feet. “Stanley,” with its folksy charm and heavy sax interludes, gives a nod to the band's ability to blend genres seamlessly. Meanwhile, “Cheat Codes” channels pure punk energy with Hardesty’s biting lyrics and rapid-fire delivery, leaving no room for pretense.  Each song tells a story, with lyrics that are as poignant as they are punchy. “Maryland Boys” is a love letter to the band’s home state, featuring a surprise hip-hop verse that adds a fresh twist to their sound. On the other hand, “Spinning Plates” captures the anxiety and hustle of modern life, wrapped in a bouncy, upbeat melody that belies its deeper themes.  Drummer T.J. Haslett’s mastery is on full display in tracks like “Forever to Go,” where his drumming propels the song forward with an anthemic drive. The band’s ability to shift gears effortlessly is evident in “Yin and the Yang,” a beautiful ode to Hardesty’s wife, Sophia, that showcases his distinctive vibrato.  As they gear up for their biggest tour yet, also titled Lyrics Over Everything, Bumpin Uglies prove that they’re not just playing music—they’re living it. From Cali Vibes to Everwild, their festival appearances have cemented their place in the scene. Not to mention the annual festival put on by Bumpin Uglies, Weekend at Wolfies. This new album is sure to keep them on the radar of both longtime fans and new listeners alike.  Bumpin Uglies are: Brandon Hardesty (vocals, lead guitar), Dave Wolf (bass, backing vocals), T.J. Haslett (drums), Ethan Lichtenberger (keys, trombone, trumpet, backing vocals), and Will Lopez (saxophone). With a discography that spans over a decade, including notable albums like Go Folk Yourself (2012) and Mid-Atlantic Dub (2022), this band continues to evolve while staying true to their roots.  Join them as they redefine the boundaries of music genres and deliver an experience that is as genuine as it is electrifying.
