"The Beer & Banjos music series, now in its tenth year with chapters in Raleigh, Carrboro & Boone, is a popular weekly event that combines live music with a friendly atmosphere. Hosted by the house band, The Beer & Banjos Allstars, it typically features a mix of local, regional and national musicians, showcasing genres such as Americana, bluegrass, folk, and roots music. It also serves as an incubator for these acts to hone their chops as they grow, develop, and strike out on the road. Now presented by Pinecone: The Piedmont Council of Traditional Music, the series brings together the community through music creating a welcoming and casual environment for attendees.  Beer & Banjos has become a staple of the Raleigh music scene, celebrating both musical talent and the area’s craft beer culture."

Badfish is a vibe. Badfish is a sonic house party complete with plenty of gyrating fans sipping libations and enjoying various extracurricular activities. Badfish is feel-good music. For almost 25 years, the Rhode Island-based band – Joel Hanks on bass, Scott Begin on drums, Pat Downes on vocals and guitar, Danny Torgersen on horns, keyboards, and guitars – have successfully paid tribute to Sublime, the influential California group that brought ska-punk and reggae-rock to the mainstream. Badfish’s heartfelt celebration of Sublime’s musical spirit and legacy is so sought-after that they’ve headlined theaters, sold out shows, and played 15-20 gigs a month. But now, Badfish is more. After two decades of Sublime reverence, Badfish originality is stomping into high gear. Badfish recently released its second new song, the anthemic, groove-fortified “F You Pay Me,” with special guest Grieves, as the follow-up to the band’s first single, “High With You.” Now the Sublime repertoire is nicely augmented by fresh original tracks that blend seamlessly together.

In 1985 Drivin’ N’ Cryin’ played their first show at Atlanta’s famed 688 Club. The band quickly gained attention for blistering live shows and amassed a rabid fanbase in the fertile soil of the late-80s Southeast music scene. Now 30+ years later, founding members Kevn Kinney and Tim Nielsen find themselves enjoying longevity, having survived the pressures of fame, a shifting musical landscape, multiple lineup changes, traveling miles of back roads and highways to arrive here. DNC has had an amazing rotation of lead guitarists joining them such as Warner E. Hodges (Jason & The Scorchers), Aaron Lee Tasjan, Sadler Vaden (Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit), Mark Bryan (Hootie & The Blowfish) and Peter Stroud (Sheryl Crow) while continuing to tour the World. The current lineup includes guitarist Laur Joamets (Sturgill Simpson) and longtime drummer Dave V Johnson. The recent re-release of Mystery Road on Island Records, Darius Rucker’s cover of their beloved anthem “Straight To Hell” feat. Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Charles Kelley (Lady Antebellum), a Summer 2018 re-release of remastered 1997 eponymous album as Too Late To Turn Back Now and the most recent 2019 full-length Aaron Lee Tasjan produced album Live The Love Beautiful has kept the band in constant motion. In 2020, Live The Love Beautiful: Live was released. Comfortable in their past and confident in their future, Drivin’ N Cryin’ are armed with an arsenal of songs, a full tank of gas and no intention of stopping any time soon.

Corey Smith has amassed an unfailingly devout fan base, not only in his native Southeast region but all around the nation simply by telling it the way it is. He has released 11 albums—including 2011’s Top 20 release “The Broken Record”. In Summer 2015 Corey teamed up with producer Keith Stegall (Alan Jackson, Zac Brown Band) for his album “While the Gettin’ Is Good” released on Sugar Hill Records. Smith’s concerts, documented on his live records “Live in Chattanooga” and “Live From Buckhead”, regularly sell out with audiences singing along to such fan favorites as the coming-of-age anthem “Twenty-One”, the nostalgic time warp “If I Could Do It Again” and the group hug “I Love Everyone”. Revolutionary music may seem hard to come by in these times, but that doesn’t mean the revolution isn’t still brewing. Meet Hawaii’s Mike Love – who spreads his positive and powerful message across the globe.  Love developed a unique style and sound rooted in the spirituality and message-based music of reggae and Rastafari, while also fusing progressive and classic rock, soul, blues, flamenco, jazz, classical, and more. At the core of Mike’s music, is healing – he is an active social, animal and environmental rights advocate, using his music as a tool to educate and unite.  Love started playing guitar at the age of 15, and soon after began performing live as front man for 10-piece band Dubkonscious. He then furthered his talents as a composer/lyricist, arranger and also producer on the band’s album At the Foot of the Mountain. He then began to hone what has now become an internationally recognized, power-packed, one-man-band style show, using looping, multiple instruments and an array of different vocal techniques and musical styles to create a full and powerful sound that belies the fact that he is on stage alone. Love's solo performances have since taken him to some of the largest stages in the world. December 2012 saw the release of Love’s first solo album, critically acclaimed The Change I'm Seeking. The album features his hit track Permanent Holiday, which went viral on YouTube and currently has more than 32 million views [2022], expanding his fan base to the furthest corners of the globe. With the release of his second album Love Will Find a Way and follow-up companion album Love Overflowing, Love solidified the bond with his fans, exhibiting the evolution they have come to expect from his music.  Love has performed at festivals and on stages in the US, South and Central America, Canada, Europe, Guam, Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines, both solo and with his band The Full Circle. The Broken Hearts were created by former Tom Petty and Mudcrutch band mate; musician/songwriter/author/bassist/vocalist Charlie Souza, along with singer/songwriter Shawn Scheller (Save The Radio!/Saigon Kick/The Contenders) as a tribute to Tom’s passing in October of 2017. Originally intended only as a temporary project, the group of musicians including keyboardist Robin Swenson (Air Supply, Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons, Chuck Negron’s 3 Dog Night), guitarist Joe Sanders (Blackbird Revival, Basic Rock Outfit), drummer Scott Lockhart (Save The Radio!The Contenders) along with Souza and Scheller became continuously requested to perform event’s in Tom’s honor.

In 2018, the decision was made to become an official touring tribute project paying respect and honor to the life and music of Thomas Earl Petty (October 20, 1950-October 2, 2017). The current touring band consists of guitarist Mateo Olivo (Nine Days, Infamous Unknowns, The Contenders) as Mike Campbell, Dave Walker (Robin Trower, The Hazies) as bassist Ron Blair, Aidan Cain (Save The Radio!/Saigon Kick) as Benmont Tench on keyboards, piano, synthesizers, harmonica & acoustic guitar, Chris ‘Blu’ McDonald (Kind Villain) as Stan Lynch on drums and still featuring original members Scott Lockhart as (Stan Lynch/Steve Ferrone/Scott Thurston) on drums/guitar/harmonica/vocals/percussion/live production and Shawn Scheller as Tom Petty on vocals, acoustic and electric guitars.

Karl Denson's Tiny Universe returns to The Yard at Bowstring on September 18th, 2025!

KDTU has electrified audiences around the world for over 25 years from the fields of Naeba in Japan at the infamous Fuji Rock Festival to the hallowed stage of Madison Square Garden where they previously joined the Dave Matthews Band and The Godfather of Soul, James Brown. From performing as Sexual Chocolate (Karl was in the original band in the movie Coming To America and its sequel) at the Outside Lands Music festival in San Francisco, to being the first late night act at the inaugural Bonnaroo festival, KDTU have been a dominating force in music for the past 25 years. All-night, sold-out concerts during Jazzfest in New Orleans have featured sit ins by everyone from Lenny Kravitz & Steve Winwood (with whom Karl has recorded and toured) to avant garde luminaries Marc Ribot & Boyfriend. Chuck Leavell and Bernard Fowler (Karl’s bandmates in The Rolling Stones where Karl replaced the great Bobby Keys as saxophonist in 2014) have joined onstage and on record, as have Lukas Nelson, John Oates, Michael Franti, Warren Haynes, Ivan Neville, Anders Osborne, Big Daddy Kane, Roy Hargrove, Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley, Joshua Redman, Marcus King, and Bernie Worrell, among others.
